Yellow lenses are fixable.

Plastic headlight lenses start out clear, then the sun slowly turns them yellow and cloudy.

The damage is a thin oxidized layer on the surface, and it scatters light instead of letting it pass through.

Restoration removes that layer by wet sanding, then polishing the lens back to clear.

A protective coat goes on last, because a bare sanded lens will start to yellow again in this sun.

The result is a cleaner look up front and a clearer lens for the beam to pass through at night.

If there is a crack or moisture inside the lens, polishing the outside will not fix that, and we will say so.

Add an exterior wash and wax and the whole front end looks fresh, not just the lights. Exterior Wash & Wax

Headlight Restoration What is included

What the visit covers.

  1. A lens check first

We look at each lens for haze, yellowing, cracks and moisture inside, and tell you what restoration can do.

  2. Masking around each light

Tape goes over the paint, trim and bumper edges, so the sanding stays on the lens and off the car.

  3. Wet sanding

Finer and finer sanding steps remove the yellowed, oxidized layer and level the surface of the lens.

  4. Polishing to clear

Polishing takes out the sanding marks until the lens is clear and you can see into the housing again.

  5. A protective coat

A UV-protective coat goes over the clean lens to help it stand up to the sun after we leave.

  6. Both sides, matched

We do the pair together, so the driver side and passenger side lenses end up looking the same.

How a visit works Four steps

From the first text to the walk-around.

  1. 1

    Call or text

Send the year, make and model, and a photo of each headlight so we can see how far the haze has gone.

  2. 2

    We set a time

We pick a day that works and come to you, at home or at work. Shade helps, so mention it.

  3. 3

    Sand, polish, coat

We mask the edges, wet sand, polish the lens to clear, then apply the protective coat.

  4. 4

    Walk-around

We look at both lenses together in daylight and go over how to wash and care for them.

Is it right for you Honest answer

Worth doing on cloudy lenses.

Restoration suits lenses that are yellow, hazy or foggy on the outside but are not cracked.

Surface work will not repair a cracked lens or one with moisture inside, and replacement may be the answer.

Send a photo of each headlight in daylight and we will tell you honestly what to expect.

On the coast

The year-round sun here is what turns headlight plastic yellow, and a car parked outside takes it every day.

Salt air, beach sand and automatic car-wash brushes also dull and scuff the lens surface.

Spring and late summer lovebugs plaster the front end, and summer storms bring wet roads and dark evenings.

Those are the times a hazy lens costs you the most, so it pays to fix them before the weather turns.

Questions Straight answers

Headlight Restoration questions.

Can you restore my headlights at my house?

Yes. We are mobile, so the lenses are restored where the car is parked, at home or at work.

Shade helps, so tell us what you have.

Will my headlights stay clear?

The protective coat helps, but the sun keeps working on plastic.

Shade and gentle hand washing help, and we go over care with you at hand-off.

What if there is moisture inside the headlight?

Polishing the outside cannot dry or seal the inside.

If we see fog or water inside a lens, we will tell you before we start.

Is this the same as a headlight cleaning?

No. A cleaner or a wipe only takes off dirt.

Restoration sands off the damaged outer layer of the plastic, then polishes and coats it.
